What PETClear Soft is and who uses it

PETClear Soft is our UV decoration system designed for clear PET bottles. It suits small to mid-size runs in craft beverage, skincare, and promotional lines where branding needs to stay sharp through bulk packing, transport, and shelf handling. Print rooms in Durban, Gqeberha, Gauteng or the Winelands use this system when they need direct-to-bottle graphics that will not rub off or fade in the Highveld sun. It is not for glass or double-walled containers, and not ideal for heavy automation lines needing high-speed cycles above 30 units per minute.

What you need to know before picking this system

Before you spec PETClear Soft, check the dimensions of your bottles, available space on your line, and the humidity where you operate. This system handles bottle neck flares up to 38 mm, body diameters up to 90 mm, and bottle heights between 85 and 320 mm. It fits most Gauteng bench setups with a 230 V single-phase socket and can run on inverter backup during load-shedding without tripping sensitive circuits. However, it will not cope with bottles out of round, sticky residues, or highly static plastic straight off high-speed blow moulders. Plan for an area with dust control in Bloemfontein and coastal humidity management in Cape Town or Durban.

How PETClear Soft works on South African floors

Operators load bottles into the PETClear Soft fixture, where UV-cured inks lay down colour in a single pass. The print area is fully exposed to air for fast curing, giving a tough, commercial-grade finish. It works with both translucent and clear PET, using fixtures that can be swapped in under five minutes when changing bottle shapes. Unlike older pad or screen print rigs that lose definition on soft plastics, PETClear Soft maintains sharp lines even when your line crew is not printing at full pace.

South African teams favour this system for its stable performance on irregular supply days and easy cleaning when sticky residues from Cape Town or Durban filling lines show up. It is not fussy about site conditions, but skipping a proper site check can catch teams out.

Worked example: A practical site swap

A Gauteng kombucha producer needs to move from pad printing to direct UV print on 250 ml PET bottles. Their space is tight, with a 1.5 metre bench, mixed power points, and dust from passing forklift traffic. Their bottles run 60 mm in diameter, 145 mm tall, with neck flares under 35 mm. PETClear Soft fits on the available bench, plugs into their 230 V mains, and accepts their bottle shape without new fixtures. Their operator can change from one shape to another between batches, using the supplied fixture toolkit. The finish passes a thumb rub test after one hour, holding up to box stacking and pallet wrap for regional deliveries.

What to prepare before emailing us

To keep your brief on track and your quote realistic, send us your core site details before the ink hits the bottle. We do not expect full CAD drawings, but two clear site photos, your city and a realistic timing window help us avoid pitfalls. Share bottle drawings or samples if possible, and note any tricky access points or municipal power quirks. Use this PETClear Soft page or the fixtures list to double-check fit options before your message.

Common pitfalls and how to avoid them

Most missed steps come down to skipping constraints. Bottles not matching spec, benches shorter than 1.4 metres, or under-estimated dust can each cause downtime or rushed last-minute fixes. Sites in Gqeberha or Durban often forget about humidity’s impact on PET static, while teams near the Highveld do not plan properly for dust. Power is another catch: make sure your supply is stable and not overloaded, especially if running other gear during load-shedding.

If in doubt, ask us for the nearest previous miss in your town. Our team keeps short notes on what went wrong last time and how it was fixed. For specific advice, send a message through our contact form. A little up-front detail saves a scramble later.
